On September 10, a total of 18 Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders participated in a 5K race to raise money for the Sickle Cell Disease Association of Miami-Dade County.
Sickle cell disease is a red blood cell disorder inherited from a person’s parents that affects people of many nationalities, including African-Americans, Greeks, Italians and Latin Americans.
There is no known cure for the disease, but events such as the walk/run raise funds for continued research in the search for a cure. This year’s event raised $10,000 for the organization.
