Thank You For Your Incredible Support

The Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure is very close to my heart. The first year I participated in the Race was the year my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was still undergoing radiation treatment after finishing up with chemotherapy. My mom has always been a strong woman in my eyes, but at that time in her life I really saw her strength. She faced the cancer the same way she's faced other challenges in life, by truly living the motto: "Let's get to work." She has always taught me to be independent but be humble when someone offers support.

I saw the support as I participated in that race. I had tears in my eyes, because my mom was a survivor and I was so grateful to receive a Survivor Medal in her honor at the finish line. As I walked with a friend, we saw how many families have been affected by breast cancer. We saw husbands honoring their wives; we saw families honoring their sisters, aunts, grandmothers, mothers, and friends. Some were walking in honor of their family member who had survived, others walked in memory. There was a lot of support among the walkers. I would graciously say congratulations to those who survived as we walked. They would ask who I was walking for and ask how my mom was doing with her treatment. It is a very inspiring event that hits close to home.

This year, on October 17th, I walked again, in honor of my Mom. I also walked, with the entire cheerleading squad in the Glam-Doll Strut, another breast cancer awareness walk. Every single girl on the squad took the day off from work or play to be a part of a walk that means so much to all of us.

The continuous fight to find a cure for breast cancer is long and stressful, but the support of family, friends and even strangers, helps to make it easier. Thank you to all the Dol-fans who have supported this cause, so close to our hearts, during the month of October.

Love,
Rosamary
